QUELL - Familiars final designs

The Familiars created for the Kickstarter campaign of Quell.
These will later be implemented as a sidekick to the character and provide special buffs and effects.
We started from a bigger set and let the community chose their favourites, which we turned into elementals to fit with the three playable Tribes: Forest Kin, Desert Folks and Plains Natives.

The founders wanted to show off a potential progression/development for each creature, here you will find the life-cycle of every species.

The Gemstone Guardian (Litobatranodon) has a connection to elemental magic thanks to its habit of digging up and eating progressively bigger gemstones.

The Ashen Beak (Avignis) is a quite jumpy fellow, and is said to produce very spicy eggs in its fertile age.

Forest Spirits (Teramantidae) dwell the thick canopy of magic-infused woods, until they grow big enough to fend for themselves on the ground and in the open.

Litobatranodon sketches. This is the more fantastical of the three Elemental races, so I went for a very experimental approach and just played with shape language.
We eventually decided to give each stage one more head than its predecessor.

Avignis sketches. For these iterations I took inspiration from dragons and various species of peculiar birds.
I love birds.

Teramantidae sketches.
The final choices were to keep the original creature as the intermediate step, like with the Avignis.
The selected final stage is a mix of a mantis and a gorilla - we could have gone with a bear-like creature or a full-on dragon.
